The Senior Engineer (Data & ISP Core) is responsible for the planning, design, capacity dimensioning, implementation, and optimization of Vodafone PNG's Data and ISP Core network infrastructure, including Internet, broadband, peering, and data centre services. The role provides technical leadership in the delivery of complex and business-critical projects, develops scalable, resilient, and high-performance network solutions, and provides technical guidance and mentorship to engineering teams. The Senior Engineer ensures network infrastructure meets established standards for performance, reliability, security, scalability, and capacity, while aligning with the company's broader technology strategy and business objectives.

Job Description

  • Plan, design, dimension, and engineer the Data and ISP Core Network, including Internet, broadband, peering, and data centre infrastructure.
  • Design and optimize Data and ISP Core networks using appropriate routing, switching, security, traffic management, and service delivery technologies.
  • Develop network capacity plans and ensure scalability to support current and future traffic growth and business requirements.
  • Design and implement resilient, redundant, and highly available network solutions, eliminating single points of failure across critical network infrastructure.
  • Develop technical designs, architecture, specifications, and engineering documentation for new and existing network systems and services.
  • Monitor and assess network performance, identify optimization opportunities, and recommend network upgrades and improvements.
  • Lead the troubleshooting and resolution of complex Data and ISP Core network and service-related issues.
  • Provide technical leadership and guidance to engineering and operational teams.
  • Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders, vendors, service providers, and project teams to ensure successful delivery of network solutions.
  • Evaluate and introduce new technologies to support network modernization, service innovation, and business growth.
  • Provide technical expertise to sales and commercial teams for pre-sales activities, customer requirements, and solution design.

Desired Skills and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Telecommunications, Computing, Information Technology, Networks, or a related discipline.
  • Cisco Certified Network Professional (CCNP) certification at a minimum, or equivalent industry-recognized certification.
  • Proven track record in designing, implementing, and supporting complex Data, ISP Core, Internet, and IP network infrastructure solutions.
  • Strong knowledge of IP networking, routing, switching, BGP, OSPF/IS-IS, MPLS, IPv4/IPv6, QoS, and Internet network technologies.
  • Knowledge and experience in broadband, ISP, peering, data centre, and Internet service technologies would be an added advantage.
  • Knowledge of UMTS/LTE/5G networks and the telecommunications industry would be an added advantage.
  • Ability to multitask, prioritize competing requirements, and demonstrate effective time management skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Effective stakeholder management, collaboration, and conflict resolution skills.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to troubleshoot complex network issues.
  • Ability to work under tight deadlines and manage complex tasks with minimal supervision.
