Reporting to the Head of Transmission, the position holder will be responsible for ensuring the delivery and availability of end-to-end transmission links, including IPVPN connections and other ICT connectivity services. This includes overseeing the implementation, performance, and maintenance of network infrastructure to support reliable and high-quality service delivery.
Network Design & Implementation:
Design, deploy, and maintain transmission links/networks over multiple network technologies, including fiber-optic, microwave, and satellite systems.
Plan, Install and configure transmission links to support voice, data, and multimedia services.
Collaborate with Operations, RF, IP, and Core network teams to ensure seamless connectivity.
Collaborate with Vendors for seamless project ventures/rollouts.
Conduct link budget calculations, network capacity planning, and path analysis.
Network Operations & Maintenance:
Management of Transmission Network Monitoring Systems.
Monitor and optimize transmission network performance to minimize downtime.
Troubleshoot transmission faults, analyse root causes, and implement corrective actions.
Perform periodic preventive maintenance on transmission equipment.
Ensure network redundancy and disaster recovery strategies are in place.
Equipment & Vendor Management:
Manage Trouble Tickets over Vendor Portals.
Work with vendors for Equipment RNR and Procurement.
Configure, test, and integrate transmission hardware and software solutions.
Facilitate forum for complex issues and strategies for ad hoc changes.
Evaluate new transmission technologies to enhance network efficiency.
Compliance & Documentation:
Ensure compliance with industry regulations, safety standards, and quality benchmarks.
Maintain detailed documentation of network configurations, upgrades, and maintenance activities.
Provide technical reports and recommendations for network improvements.
Working knowledge and experience in various transmission network technologies including Microwave, Fibre and Satellite.
Understanding of IP/MPLS, VoIP, and network security concepts.
CCNA, or equivalent, certification may be required; and Network component level certification in Cisco may be preferred.
Proficiency in network troubleshooting and performance analysis.
Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
Strong communication and team oriented.
Hands-on experience with transmission planning tools will be an added advantage.
Safety Work at Heights Certificate will be an added advantage.
Minimum 5 years telecommunications working experiences on bear networks.
